ACS Suriname Reunion Update Page.

January 15, 2005:
ACS Suriname
The guys over in Holland held a mini reunion last year. Below is Sander Peeters' description of the event. They are some pictures of the reunion which can also be found on the ACS forum. Also, Kurt Petersdorff met separately with Won Il Sue later on in Amsterdam. There are a couple pictures of them below.

Man oh man, I was excited! After a lot of e-mails back and forth, Kurt Petersdorff, Lydia & Paul van der Ziel and myself decided to meet up in 's Hertogenbosch between Eindhoven and Utrecht. We would meet at the station. Although I was thinking of bringing along a banner saying: ACS is Cool (at Kurt's suggestion), I decided not to make a fool of myself and just go by myself.

First meeting and discussing the yearbooks: f.l.t.r. Sander, Kurt & Lydia

Arriving at Den Bosch Central Station, I was looking around for a guy, my age and taller with black hair. After looking frantically around I spotted a man with a New York Yankees baseball cap, a little bit shorter than me with the same facial appearances as Kurt, totally focused on SMSing.

I decided to take the risk. I walked to him, and I said: In Suriname, you were taller. Yes, indeed! After 13 years and 8000 km I met the guy from grade 8 who had broken his arm, trying to slam-dunk from a skateboard ramp.

The first of many meetings?: f.l.t.r. Kurt, Lydia, Paul & Sander

After the initial greetings and some waiting we met up with Paul and Lydia. Wow! We got together and decided to head into town for a drink. In a little pub/restaurant we had a drink and started talking. What we did, how everything went after Suriname, families and such. The funny thing was that we were all talking Dutch to each other for the first time, since our conversations were usually in English at the ACS.

Anyway, Kurt & Lydia had brought along some ACS yearbooks (several that I've never seen before) and started talking about what changed and of course what became of those other classmate.

Topics discussed:
- Soccer games
- Red / Yellow cards
- School plays
- Book burning
- Trip to cola creek
- Kurt's slam-dunk + his battle scars
- Why a lot of ACSers are married already? (Hmm, I'm falling behind!)
- The reunion planning
- David Chatterpaul's site
- Julie Grant/Writters' new career as mother & manager of the house
- and much more

We took a nice stroll and found a good restaurant (unfortunately no Surinamese restaurant) and got us a good dinner. After which we walked back to the train station (although Paul forgot his umbrella and we had to walk back).

But anyway, it was a very nice evening and I hope we can repeat this in the near-future. Unfortunately, Kurt's might be going to Japan in the near future, so we have to plan in advance.

After dinner (2)

I encourage others to meet up, since it was very nice to talk with everybody. I hope to meet others in the future and since I'm planning to travel around I hope I can visit others as I pass by.
